BEST. BOOK. TITLE. EVA

Stop Dressing Your Six-Year Old Like a Skank.

H&B says, "Amen, sister!"

[via Fashionista.com]

Forever 21 Collection

I stopped by Forever 21 the other day to give its newish better line Twelve by Twelve a once over. A couple of the items in the collection were actually pretty cute including this $69 faux leopard cropped swing jacket. But at close inspection, the button strings were frayed and it didn't instill much confidence that it could function beyond the world of disposable clothing. Personally, I thought the purpose of Forever was to buy trendy items that won't last more than season (both literally and stylistically) and while $70 isn't a lot of money, it's certainly more than I could see dropping there.

Would you spend $70 on a Forever 21 item - even if it was "collection?"

If you're in... Meet Olivier Theyskens and get your Murakami on

If you're in...

Los Angeles: Drop by MOCA today through February 11 to check out the much-talked about Murakami exhibit at its Geffen Gallery. The first of its kind, in addition to the exhibit, there is a fully operational Louis Vuitton boutique, showcasing the artist’s collaboration with the designer brand, right smack in the middle of the exhibit. The boutique displays a range of handbags and accessories including some created just for the exhibit featuring Murakami’s brightly hued logo designs. Psyche yourself up by watching Marc Jacob discuss his collaboration with the artist on MOCA's site.

New York: Tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 30th, with some free time on your hands, Bergdorf Goodman's 4th floor is the place to be. Previewing Nina Ricci's spring collection and appearing in person will be designer Olivier Theyskens, the man largely responsible for Reese Witherspoon's red carpet winners as of late.

Been there: Lucky Shops

Just returned from the megawatt Lucky Shops and I must say they put on a quality event. The doors opened at noon and the very large Metropolitan Ballroom was already swarmed with fashettes looking for designer bargains. And, bargains there were. Situated at the entrance and in one of the larger booths was Michael Kors whose bags and shoes were selling at 50% off. Kooba, Botkier and the Lycra Denim bar (where you could have jeans by J Brand, ACNE, Sass & Bide, Serfontaine, Siwy or Levi's Capital E hemmed while you wait gratis) were by far the most crowded - but there was plenty of stock to go around. Marc Jacobs was selling collection bags at $300 and wallets at $50 but the selection wasn't good. H&B picked up (in her esteemed opinion) the very haute Jill Stuart Ali pumps below for a reasonable $150, considering they are currently in stores for $400. All in all, the event was a success. Lucky shops, and so did we.

She's GLAMorous

In a way more symbiotc pairing than with Kipling, M·A·C Cosmetics has named Fergilicious as its latest Viva Glam spokeswoman. In this role, Ferg will join the ranks of Eve, Dita von Teese, Debbie Harry, Lisa Marie Presley, Pamela Anderson, Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Linda Evangelista, Chloë Sevigny, Boy George, Ru Paul and KD Lang. In addition to the ad campaign which is to launch in February, MAC will also release a limited edition Viva Glam Lip Glass.

Established in 1994 by M·A·C Cosmetics, the M·A·C AIDS Fund supports men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. Introducing its first VIVA GLAM lipstick that same year, M·A·C decided that every cent of the selling price of the VIVA GLAM lipsticks would go to the M·A·C AIDS Fund, and it has since provided over $95 million (US) to date for the M·A·C AIDS Fund.

Flights of Fancy

The rarest of birds, the Coutorture, delivered a most delightful surprise to our nest yesterday. Now, packages of any sort generally get our mood soaring but we're still twitting around a good 24 hours later thanks to the unexpected arrival of Sephora's Smokey Eye Kit.

This eight piece set includes five Sephora Professionelle (ooh la la, how French!) brushes - wide smudge, all over shadow, small domed smudge, detail and dual-sided brow brush and comb- a volumizing mascara and a how-to smoke 'em if ya got 'em instructional guide all housed in a chic as can be gunmetal case. Chirptastic, wouldn't you say?

So far, we have yet to spread our smokey eye creating wings but stay tuned as we brush up on our skills. Details to follow chickadees!

HenriBendel.com Ruined My Life

As H&B reported a couple of weeks ago, Henri Bendel was
finally joining the 21st century and taking it to the Web. We cheered! We jeered! And we quasi-patiently waited as the launch date neared...

Oh such fools you made of us HenriBendel.com! Now that you're live (since Monday actually) we feel only a sense of deep disappointment. Where are the haute bags by up-and-comers? The unrivaled jewelry collection? The accessories? Oh, the accessories (and humanity)! The only thing to peruse or buy is your own Bendel-made products (Bendel's bags, candles, jewelry, etc.). How narcissitic! How tragic! What a buzz kill!

We'll give you that the site looks good, but we want a side of substance with our style - a splash of haute utility, if you will. Such high hopes we had for you henribendel.com -- we pinned our daytime hopes and distraction dreams on you, and now, now just disappointment.

It is out of our love and respect for you that we plead: when you upload your Holiday catalog please make sure there are plenty of fabtastic items available so we can put this ugly little episode behind us. We'd so hate to ruin the beautiful relationship we'd maintained this far.

Besos,
H&B

Totetastic: I Am Not Wasted

It's no surprise that reusable bags are tres en vogue right now. And one of the most tongue in chic we've seen in some time is from the beauty-full people over at Origins. Released as part of its new Origins Organics collection, two different limited edition 100% organic cotton bags are available in "I don't get wasted" and "Re-user friendly."

Each of the $10 totes can be filled with its organic products - the first full line of prestige skin, body and hair care products to be certified under the consistently stringent standards of the USDA National Organic Program, groceries, or just about anything else.

Plus, as if helping to preserve the environment isn't enough, 100% of the profits from the purchase of thebag will be donated to the Organic Farming Research Foundation.

Get 'em at Origins

In the Nony: Smashbox for Petro Zillia

Like the beauty looks on the Petro Zillia spring runway? Now you can rock it out Petro-style thanks to the designer's recent collaboration with cosmetics company Smashbox. The two have teamed up on three products - a $22 lipstick, an $18 mascara and a $22 eyeliner, all of which are currently available on smashbox.com. [WWD]

Fendi's Wall of Fame

In a historic fashion moment, Casa Fendi staged a dramatic fashion show atop the Great Wall of China, for a crowd of 500 notables including Bernard Arnault (LVMH chairman), Karl Lagerfeld, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Kate Bosworth, Thandie Newton, Ziyi Zhang, Fabiola Versaca, Zani Gugelmann, Tinsley Mortimer, Bettina Zilkha, Julia Rstoin-Roitfeld and Amanda Hearst. The 89-piece collection included a mix of designs created specifically for the event and looks from Milan spring '08.

Masstige Misses

Some one-off lines are brill (witness most of the Go designers as well as the H&M collaborations) but why don't the accessories lines every work? Holly Dunlop's recent line Hollywould for Target is the perfect example of this - from a distance it looks like it could be cute and then up close...Hollywouldn't! Hollyshouldn't!

I get that material plays a big role in this - obviously pleather is going to look cheap compared to leather but there are other materials that can be employed that surely could make these lines work better. Rafe's bags for Target bombed, Devi Kroell's similiarly looked cheap and Hollywould's is a disappointment too.

Have you seen a haute one-off accessories line? We wanna know about it. Drop us a comment!

Zappos: By the numbers

I heard a staggering statistic the other day and decided to do some serious sole searching to get to the bottom of it. Turns out, the statistic was right and here it is:

Zappos, the online shoe purveyor currently has 170,607 different styles available with 3,251,345 total products (including the delicious Giuseppe Zanotti's at right) in stock and ready to ship. That said it also obviously means it currently has 3,251,345 overpriced wares, but that's another conversation. At the moment, let's just bask in the awe of what it must be like to be surrounded by some 100K different shoes.
Yum.

Tossed and Found

For its annual design issue, Time Out NY asked designers Wary Meyers to turn discarded junk into design centerpieces.

The results? An LV pig (albeit made from a mangled, fake bag), a hip-hop barbie YSL chest (my words, not theirs) and H&B's personal favorite the Le Beck dresser. All of the items are up for auction at Housing Works Thrift Shops now through Halloween, with proceeds going to charity.

You are free to bid on everything but the Le Beck. That was just an FYI :)

Is Henri Bendel Thinking Forward?

Despite celebrating the 100th anniversary of the brown and white stripe, and reinforcing its 1895 founding at every turn, it would appear that Henri Bendel is FINALLY moving forward. The company is gearing up to launch a new website -- henribendel.com (so edgy! so bold!). It's only 2007, and the internets hasn't been around all thaaaat long, so really, can we fault them?

In unrelated Bendel's news, FashionWeekDaily reports that the company will introduce an accessories line in time for holiday. Items will include signature leather totes, sterling silver and enamel cuffs, pendant necklaces, keychains and notebooks. The real question is this though, would you spend $450 for essentially a shopping bag?

Moschino Historical Archives Come Out of the Closet

In a move that makes Moschino actually Cheap (and obviously Chic!), the Italian design House has opened the doors to its historical archives as part of a worldwide exlcusive with the discount online purveyor Yoox. The site is currently selling one-of-a-kind wares at extremely reasonable prices (for what you're getting), with proceeds benefitting the AMREF project (African Medical & Research Foundation) in support of the "At school with AMREF" project in Kenya.

Most items are available in size 6 so if that's you or you have a great tailor, high tail it on over.

Shh...It's Lagerfeld Confidential

Tickets to the widely anticipated (and by widely I mean in certain very narrow circles...ovals, really!) Lagerfeld Confidential go on sale today at the Film Forum. The French documentary provides a couture fishbowl look at the legendary designer even if it is somewhat against his will. “I don’t want to be a reality in people’s lives. I want to be like an apparition,”said Czar Karl. Having not seen the film, I'm unable to comment, (as if that's ever stopped me) except to say, I'm pretty sure Mr. Lagerfeld will remain enigmatic.

Playing at the Film Forum in downtown Manhattan, the movie will run for a limited two weeks. Showtimes are as follows:

Wednesday, October 24 – Tuesday, November 6
Showtimes: 1:00, 2:50, 4:40, 6:30, 8:20, 10:10

I've got my tickets, do you?

Call the fashion police: Anya Hindmarch Raided

While raiding her closet is probably many a fashette's fantasy, ransacking her store is taking things a tad too far, no? But that's just what happened at her London outpost this morning, according to British Vogue. A motley moped riding crew of 4 broke into the store earlier today, making off with £20,000 worth of this season's handbags including the Lautner and the Ebury.

Similiar break-ins have occured at Marc Jacobs, Luella and Roger Vivier.

Feeling Oprah-timistic

What's an 8-minute Oprah segment worth? If you're Adam Lippes, creative director of Adam Adam Lippes, the answer is a whopping $500,000.

Last spring, the designer appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and within a week, saw sales of $500,000 — if that doesn't seem high to you (you jaded, jaded readers!), consider this: that amount was half of his ANNUAL projected Internet sales. Half! Talk about the big O!

"Chicago has a really fond place in my heart," Lippes said this past week (tactfully omitting "and wallet!"). "[The Oprah endorsement] was one of the biggest events of my life."

Thanks to an investment from The Atelier Fund to the tune of $9.5 million for a 35 percent stake Lippes will open his first freestanding store in the Meatpacking District and launch a new web site - shopadam.com. Both are set to open on November 23.

Ugly Betty: The Law & Order for Designers?

With a season that began with an appearance by Kenneth Cole, and which includes a double whammy of Vera Wang and Posh Spice on November 8th (mark your calendar!), Ugly Betty is seriously whetting our designer-cum-actor appetite. Here's hoping they just keep coming!

Who would you like to see next?

Agyness Deyn on Top(shop)?

The fashosphere's abuzz that brit model and current fash obsession Agyness Deyn could be next in line to do a collection with Topshop. While as of yet unconfirmed, the rumor does raise many questions, namely:

Will the line be produced in nothing but neon?

Is Topshop going to collab with non-models only going forward?

Will the line really be Henry Holland (Deyn's designer roommate) for AD for Topshop?

Will you be operating on London time days before to prepare yourself for its e-launch?

Irony Alert

I think the French may make me a patriot:

From Chanel's spring '08 collection, up now at Chanel.com

Know when to hold 'em

Well my little cabbages...I am folding. After hours of fruitless searching, I have come up with nothing but sore eyes and a fab D&G blazer that while amazing, alas is not what I was looking for. Ay me. Here's the D&G houndstooth wonder. It is a beauty but I'm feeling too defeated to get all uppity about it.

Obsessive COATS Disorder

Because H&B loves you, she has gone through 135/433 pages of coats on ShopStyle.com and checked out every single piece of outerwear on Neiman, Bergdorf, Saks, Net-a-Porter, E-Luxury and Vivre. Why the madness, you ask? I spotted the hautest coat ever yesterday and fear it may never again cross my path.

In the process though, I have learned that Jessica Simpson now makes coats too. Um, ok. But back to the case at hand (HAVE YOU SEEN THIS REAL MISSING COAT?)

I will find it dear readers, oh yes, I will. Afterall, I'm nothing if not stubborn determined.

Stay tuned...

Nurse Betty?

SpongeBob and a host of A-list supermodels clad like naughty nurses? Why it must be the Louis Vuitton fashion show. Paying homage to its collaboration with artist Richard Prince (he has an RN series), and shining the spotlight brightly on accessories - the House's bread and costly butter - yesterday's show in Paris began with the likes of Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour and Eva Herzogiva, donning see-thru nurse's-attire and black lace "surgical masks." The theatrical event introduced the new bags and shoes much like the Murakami show but we'll get to the accessories later. The burning question of the moment is:

LV nurses: haute or bothered?
