Viktor & Rolf Got Baggage

Goodness gracious, great balls of LATENESS. Sorry for the delay...

They've conquered champagne, perfume and H&M. So what's up next for design duo Viktor & Rolf? The pair have signed on to create a luggage collection in 2009 for Samsonite's Black Label, following in Alexander McQueen's footsteps. In tapping the eccentric duo, the luggage company hopes "to be provocative and unexpected to create excitement around the brand," according to Marcello Bottoli, Samsonite's president and CEO.

Unlike McQueen's hard skeletal pieces, this collection, which will include beauty cases, carry-ons and travel totes will be soft pieces.

Look for the line in all Samsonite locations in 2009.

America's Next Top Shop

Thanksgiving may already be a dim memory (except to your hips) but word in from WWD adds another big reason to be thankful: Topshop is indeed hitting U.S. shores, beginning with a SoHo flagship in September, and following with 2 more NYC locations, West Coast outposts and Las Vegas, Miami and Boston stores.

Long a London favorite among the fashion set, the store sells fash-forward wares at accessible price points. Additionally, it has boosted the careers of young up and coming talents like Preen, Christopher Kane and Emma Cook by sponsoring capsule collections (not to mention the the blockbuster Kate Moss line) - a program it hopes to continue by tapping America's designsters.

According to WWD, "The Broadway flagship [rendering shown above right] will cover 40,000 sq. ft. over three floors — basement, ground floor and first floor — and Green said he's hoping to preserve the 'spirit' of the brand's iconic Oxford Circus flagship."

Til September though, it's topshop.com.

Designers Toy With Miniatures

Think stocking stuffers, dollies:

We reported back in the day that Alber Elbaz would be releasing limited edition porcelain dolls dressed in Lanvin's '07 looks. Despite being priced at $800 a pop, the minis are already sold out. On the brightside, he's not the only designer with dolls on the mind (and the others come in a whole lot cheaper too!)

Heatherette has designed a limited edition set of its fab gang for KidRobot (talk about femme bots!) featuring mais oui, Richie Rich & Travor Rains, the incomprable Amanda Lepore, and the rest of the heatherentourage Aimee Phillips and Macky Dugan. $2.95 @ kidrobot

If your sensibilities run more plush, Prada has brought back its teddy keychain - this one a whole lot more cuddly cute; $150 at select Prada boutiques.

Check em out, after all, why should kids have all the fun?

The best part of waking up

How a fashette should take her coffee:

When holding the cup with all 5 fingers, the handle will slide over your ring-finger and showcase a Swarovski crystal-embellished ring handle. Fashionable and chic - even before caffeination begins!

The included key spoon "unlocks" the box to reveal its inner treasure.

Charming Makeup Update

Happened upon this fun number last night and thought it would be a great update to yesterday's gloss post.

Missoni has added a charm necklace to its fragrance collection designed by Margherita herself. The haute bauble features several unique charms, with a large gold ball in the center filled with Missoni solid perfume.

Truly charming!

Who's The Gloss?

Jewel-toned makeup is nothing new, but several companies have taken a very literal interpretation this season. From left: Dior Jeweled Makeup Necklace For The Lips, $90 at Sephora; Limited Edition Dior Pretty Charms, $55 at Sephora; Lancome Precious Carat in Diamond Splendor, $40 at Lancome.com; Urban Decay Commando, $26 at Sephora; YSL Palette, $62 at Henri Bendel. Delicious!

H&B PSA: Just say 'Quiz-NO!'

H&B would never imply that her readers are Quiznos eaters but, just in case... We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for this "The More You Know..."

Quiznos, one of the last fast food chains to share its nutritional info has recently let the fat, er, cat out of the bag and released the data on its web site. (The info is kinda hidden, and takes a lot of click, click, clicking, but seek and you shall find. Click on a food category under "MENU", scroll down and hit "Show Nutrition Information").

For your sake, H&B really hopes you're not into its sandwiches - or salads for that matter lil miss innocent - the honey mustard dressing alone has 500 calories and 50g fat! Seriously, is that a joke? Sadly, it only heads downhill from there. The worst offender on the menu is the large Tuna Melt Sub, which'll set you back oh, just 2,090 calories & 175g fat...for tuna!

2 of the 5 salads on the menu have 1,000 calories. And, if you thought you'd be 'healthy' and opt for the veggie sub, think again...A large has 1,220 calories and 75 grams of fat. Um, all I want for Christmas is not to have a coronary?

Eek, turning away from fat for a sec... The FDA recommends less than 2,400 mg of Sodium per day for adults. Quizno's has 31 items with over 2,400 mg of Sodium (with one topping 4,000 mg). Can you imagine the bloating?
H&B was too horrified not to post something. Afterall, the more you know...(the better your jeans'll fit).

Red Tuesday?

Want a sure sign that the holiday shopping season is looking bleak? In addition to countless doorbusters - made famous by the likes of CompUSA and Wal-Mart - Gucci.com is offering 10% off everything on its website (save for its holiday UNICEF products) tomorrow.

It's the economy cupid; spelling bad news for retailers, good news for fashettes. The discount means this "Snow Glam" Boston will cost you $140 less that it will the rest of the season.

Wishing you smooth sale-ing.

It's Friday, I'm in Luuuuuuv

Ducking into Owl Lab to escape the cold, H&B fell head over heels as she is so wont to do. Haute to trot and so wintery delicious, Sonya Rykiel's Luna bag would make even the most jaded into a giggly school girl (they don't call it the loony Luna for nuttin').

Fashioned in black knit wool and patent we imagine that even if it won't keep us warm (not that we are above cuddling with it!), it will have us looking hot and no longer in need of The Cure.

Sale on Buy

Get your head out of the sand lil birdies- it's sale season!

What: Hollwould Black Ostrich Josephine Pumps

Why: Ostrich embossed peeps with the sweetest of sweet bow detailing - wrap yourself up and present yourself EVERYWHERE! Oh, and at 35% off.

Is religion the new black?

So first there was this. Then today, it poured in biblical proportions like something straight out of Evan Almighty the days of twosie-twosies. And now, Marie Claire has this great post about "A Week of Living Biblically." Inspired by A.J. Jacob's new book of the same name (save for it's a year, not a week), MC editor, Cleo Glyde attempts a week sans gossip, designer clothes and makeup (the horror!) in the name of "being a better person."

Here's how things kicked off:

MONDAY, 9 A.M.
Full of hope, I take out cash for the week to avoid credit cards: "You shall not borrow" (Deuteronomy 28:12). I wait for a green light on an empty street-no jaywalking; it's a civil law. But when a monster, gas-guzzling SUV passes by, I automatically think, God, what an asshole. I'm appalled-an uncharitable, negative thought and taking the Lord's name in vain (Commandment Three) before lunch!

9:30 A.M.
All the womanly fun I take for granted-skirts that swish, floaty chiffon blouses, costume jewelry, and full makeup-are verboten (1 Peter 3:3: "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, gold jewelry and fine clothes"). Ecclesiastes 9:8 narrows it down: "Let your garments always be white"-and mixed fibers are a no-no. Done: This week, everything I wear is 100 percent cotton. Despite working in a building where hems bubble, blowouts reign, and designer accessories are more emblematic than a sheriff's badge, I replace my Furla red-patent clutch with a charity feed bag in reversible sackcloth. I am totally defanged as an urban player.

Could you do it? H&B hates to back down from a challenge but come on? No hair products? No AmEx? What is that quote, "Give me fashion or give me death?" What are your deal breakers, sinners?

Don't you hate it when this happens?!?

Thanksgiving, as envisioned in Bluefly's new TV campaign, "Why I Bluefly." Someone should tell them it's really for the discounted designer duds.

Holy Moses!

We here at H&B worship at the temples of Dior and Chanel, and pray daily for health, happiness and haute couture. But we must say, despite our clear religious zeal, we were none too prepared for this "divine" inspiration: the 10 Commandments Diamond.

Now, maybe you thought the butterfly or heart-shaped diamond was hokey. Perhaps, a purist like you says round or bust. But thou should really be more open-minded. Like, we're thinking this cut would look totally stunning with two baguettes.

Unfortunately, you'll have to be patient as we all know #10 says, "Thou shalt not covet." Ironic, no? Thankfully, there wasn't room for the little known 11th "Thou shalt not mock."

H&B might be 'cracking up'

It's been cold approximately a minute in New York, and aleady our skin is flaky, our bones a bit shaky and our spirit, (we're going there) achy breaky!

Like some twisted O'Henry cosmetic curse (yes, H&B reads!) just when you're wanting moisture, moisture, moisture, the season calls for bolder, deeper, more attention grabbing lipsticks (oh, the cruel irony).

Rest assured mon petite fleurs, we don't bring up the topic simply to whine and rhyme. We've happened upon an answer, a moisturizing balm that's not just tinted but powerfully hued. Therapy Systems, the brand behind the geniously gentle grapefruit exfoliating cleanser (but we digress, focus H&B, focus!), has recently forayed into color adding six tinted balms to its line that pack a serious colored punch.

Don't let the names fool you, the colors are deeper than their names would have you believe (especially the nude, which is actually more of a nutmeg and the bare which is a light mauve). The vitamin E and cocoa butter rich sticks soothe chapped lips and stay put for hours making a strong case for lipstick replacement. And lest we haven't convinced you that these ain't your run of the mill lip-smackers, their chic metallic casing should do the trick.

$22 at TherapySystems.com, H&B says, "Try 'em out, for sanity's sake-y!"

Roberto Ca-vanished

H&B humbly apologizes for getting your hopes up. For some reason, it simply didn't occur to her that Cavalli's H&M line would sell out (in every New York store, although we presume similiar scenes played out nationwide) in TEN minutes! We thought we were totally beating the lunch crunch only to arrive to the devastating news. We are Roberto Ca-ntankerous!

Get Roberto Ready

Should a bad case of Cavalli fever not yet swept you up and away, today's Thursday Styles has a spread that should do the trick. Perfectly timed, it arrived just in time for the King of the Jungle's H&M arrival:

Clockwise from top left: Dolce & Gabbana printed pony-hair Miss Jolie bag, $2,095 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Lola rabbit-hair hat, $375 at Bergdorf Goodman. Giuseppe Zanotti haircalf boots, $1,195 at Giuseppe Zanotti. Mulberry haircalf Bayswater bag, $1,995 at Mulberry. Roberto Cavalli gold cuff, $525 from vivre.com. Salviati glass ring, $110 at Salviati. Lambertson Truex haircalf clutch, $895 at Lambertson Truex. YSL pony gloves, $475, and belt bag, $895, at Yves Saint Laurent. Stubbs & Wootton velvet slippers, $325 at Stubbs & Wootton. [NYT]

Underweight model crisis reached dizzying new heights!

You could literally see straight though the models at yesterday’s Target fashion show, staged in Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall. Straight through! I mean, enough is enough, designers. Real women have curves and stuff. Blah, blah feminism, and damn you air-brushing magazines and, oh screw it...

The ever-innovative Target (the very same brand who once had models scale a building in a vertical fashion runway) for its latest winter and holiday styles presentation, staged a fashion completely without models, using high-def holograms to show off its designer wares. The 3D virtual show was live all day yesterday, allowing passersby to see the clothes and accessories walk, dance and interact – sans models.

Target collection designers Mossimo, Dominique Cohen, Liz Lange, Erin Fetherston, Isaac Mizrahi, Keanan Duffy were on-hand for the first press-show in the morning.

LeStellaSac

Stella McCartney loves herself a collaboration. The very pregnant designer has signed an 18 month deal with LeSportsSac that will launch in January. Clearly a personaly endeavor, the collection is Stellicious (read: eco-friendly & mum-friendly!).

According to WWD, "All the fabrics are made from 100 percent recyclable materials and even the paper hangtag is made from recycled paper. The plastic dust bags in which the handbags come are completely biodegradable." Sounds about right. Additionally, "each bag contains compartments for cosmetics and baby wipes and insulating compartments for baby bottles."

Well, mum or not, this is definitely the nicest LeSportSac we ever did see. Plus, baby bottles/Moet & Chandon...tomayto/tomahto, no?

Priced from $42 - $204

Spoiler Alert: Tonight's 11th Annual ACE Awards

Because We’re Friends…(And Family!)

Sure H&B would like to profess herself a natural beauty but in the name of full disclosure, here her makeup standbys:

Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer (we opt for the SPF 15 with Dermaxyl Complex version) is simply the best primer out there. No diggity. No doubt. (And yes, we said, “Diggity!”), $42

Like an amped up tinted moisturizer Vincent Longo’s Liquid Canvas Dew Finish Foundation SPF 15 provides sheer coverage without ever looking cakey, $48.50

Benefit’s You’re Bluffing is like a blemish eraser. Use in the outside corner of your eyes and on blemishes to counter red better than any concealer. Not seeing is believing! $22

Laura Mercier’s Shimmer Loose Powder in Sun Dust keeps cheeks sunkissed and fresh, $34 (FYI – Prescriptives makes a brilliant bronzer blush for application!)

For night, we are loving Lorac’s Star Eyed Surprise in Rising Star (natch!). Great for creating “smokey eye lite” – it has two gradients of emerald and an iridescent white for the brow. Fab! $24

We must admit we were surprised ourselves, but our mascara du jour is Sephora’s very own (fancy that!). In a very serious lash-off we compared it alongside Smashbox, Clinique, Prescriptives and M.A.C and it was by far our fave for full, voluminous lashes without loads of clumps. Manifique! We got ours in the Sephora Smokey Eye Kit ($42) which we wrote about a week or so ago, here (n.b. we used the kit’s instructions with Lorac’s Rising Star to great effect). But you can also purchase it solo, for a very well priced $6.

Finally, we’d never gloss over our pucker pick. Adorning our pout is usually Stila’s Lip Glaze in peach (although we’ve been known to carry several different glosses if this fickle fiend is truly being forthcoming!). $20

Sheesh, sounds like H&B needs a lot of work each morning. Yowza! Share your picks!

Whoosh! Late in the day posting! Feeling a bit Alice in Wonderland "I'm late, I'm late..." Anyway, on with the show...

There's been no shortage of buzz this week around Roberto Cavalli's Vodka (in case you missed this brilliant quote from the designer, "I make the vodka because I like having sexy times with the sexy ladies.") but one spirited collaboration seems to have flown beneath the radar.

The dynamic duo Victor & Rolf just created a new limited edition bottle for Piper-Heidsieck’s Rosé Sauvage champagne. The $90 bottle literally turns the whole bottle concept on its head – with an upside down configuration. To get themselves started the designers asked themselves, "How can we make this bottle, which we think of as iconic, look a little bit like us? How could we make something new out of something eternal? We only had one answer, invert the proportions.”

The $90 champers currently is only on sale in Europe but log on to its website to check out their forthcoming movie. Salud!
