Things that make you go hmm: The Mavi Store

Several years ago, Mavi laid down roots on Broadway between 12th and 13th St. in New York. Since its opening, I can't ever recall seeing someone that wasn't an employee inside. With rents constantly rising and even decently successful businesses folding, how on earth does this shop stay open? Is it a money laundering front? Is there a heroin den in its basement? What's the Mavi deal? I don't get it. Hmm...

Gap's Eensie Weensie, Teenie Weenie, Missoni-esque Striped Bikini

Sure it's only 18 degrees out but in our hearts we're sunning ourselves in St. Tropez. Truth be told we're browsing in the Gap, but Gap/St. Tropez... it's like potayto/potahto! Anyway, while there we happened upon this fab number - a ruffled Missoni-inspired striped bikini that will surely look beach-haute-to-trot!

And, at $79, the cross-Atlantic flight almost seems palatable.

Marc Jacobs Hearts Hillary

Talk about fashioning an image! Marc Jacobs has silk screened Hillary Clinton onto tees (for the 2nd time), available exclusively at his Marc by Marc Jacobs boutiques. The shirts cost $35 and all proceeds go towards her campaign. Of course this begs the question, how long will it be til we can don Juicy Obama butt pants?

Take a Stroll Lily Cole

If we were Henry Holland, we would SO put that on a tee! No matter, because nothing will damper our latest finding - Christian Lacroix Pour La Redoute's got a whole new fantabulous site where you can take a tour of his whimsical world with Lily Cole. Joyous! Just joyous. It's a Wednesday afternoon delight!

Follow the red carpet road. Follow the red carpet road. Follow, follow, follow, follow...

Love, love me do

It's right about now that I wish I had a faerie godmother to bring me a Prada Faerie bag. Ay me. Ay me.

The flitty little things make a whimsical appearance in Trembled Blossoms, Prada's original short. Watch 'em here - no pixie dust required.

Downtown for Chinatown

Hope you weren't banking on picking up a cheap "Goyardo" tote today. After a NYPD raid yesterday morning, Chinatown is SOOOOOOO busted!

Three buildings (owned by the Vincent Terranova estate) housing 32 illegal storefronts all selling knockoffs were shut down on a block commonly referred to as the Counterfeit Triangle. Over $1 million in faux goods (Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Coach, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, and the ever sought after designer knockoff Dora the Explorer) were seized during the raid.

Said Mayor Bloomberg, "[The Counterfeit Triangle] has been one of the most notorious knockoff shopping malls in the five boroughs, one with more than 150 employees operating with impunity 10 or more hours a day, seven days a week, even while the building owners were under a long-standing federal court order to stop counterfeiting activities."

According to WWD, "No arrests have been made, but city officials will move quickly to issue violations of health and safety codes that will result in orders to vacate the premises, effectively shutting the buildings down."

And now the Oscar "No She Didn'ts"

Oh boy. When they miss, man do they miss. Here, the worst of the worst. Oscar's Worst Dressed:

Worst dressed of the eve for sure goes to Daniel Day Lewis's wife, Rebecca Miller, who sadly looks like a leftover Christmas present (eek - that no one wanted to unwrap) in Christian Lacroix Haute Couture.

Tilda Swinton's dress supposedly was Lanvin but looks more landfill - is this trashy couture?

Forget the dress, did Calista forget it was the Oscars? It looks like she jumped out of the shower, threw her hair a top her head and ran for the carpet.

It breaks our heart to do this but Ellen Page! What were you thinking? You just turned 21 and you couldn't look frumpier. The vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer Haute Couture was just way way too old.

Oscars Best in Show

H&B's favorite look of the evening went to Keri Russell, who radiated Cinderella perfection in Nina Ricci and H. Stern baubles.

Black is generally considered boring and staid but jennifer Garner looked stunning last night in Oscar de la Renta and Van Cleef and Arpels Jewlery. As to her best accessory, Ben Affleck, he was no where to be seen.

It must be nice to look uber-stylish when you're totally preggers. Cate Blanchett looked gorgeous in Dries van Noten making H&B quasi-bitter but mostly impressed.

The hardest working woman at last night's Academy Awards, Amy Adams surely left young girls everywhere green with envy in her emerald Proenza Schouler.

Fill me up buttercup! Rosamund Pike in Roland Mouret.

Honorable mention goes to Renee Zellweger, whose dress was stunning, but "I am sucking on a lemon" expression cost her best dressed points.

The REAL Red Carpet

Talk about painting the town red. At last night's Oscar, the biggest trend of the night was impossible to miss (weren't you seeing red?). Star after star walked the red carpet looking red hot and we've got the pics to prove it:

Anne Hathaway dazzled in Marchesa easily joining the ranks of best dressed.

A devilish heidi Klum heats things up in Galliano Couture. Stunning!

What happened to the rest of Katherine Heigl? Oozing movie star, the very skinny celeb personified old Hollywood glam in newly cut ringlets and a resplendant Escada.

Jillian Dempsey (and McDreamy for that matter) in Versace

Ruby Dee in Kevan Hall.

Helen Mirren looks as regal as ever in a custom George Chakras.

Miley Cyrus looking on trend and completely age appropriate in Valentino (from his last spring collection).

Tilda Christie stood out from the red brigade in a cocktail length she designed with her stylist, Tanya Gill.

Dennis Hopper with Victoria Duffy.

Bringing Scenty Back

Following in the footsteps of Liv Tyler, Justin Timberlake has been tapped as the fresh face of Givenchy's newest men's fragrance (bowing fall '08).

"Beyond his immense international notoriety, we chose Justin Timberlake because he's a true trendsetter who has redefined modern elegance,” said Alain Lorenzo, Parfums Givenchy’s president.

Marc Jacobs Scarf Gate '08

We're sure it's just one big coincidence, but some Swedish folks are pretty up in arms that some "Mark guy" ripped off one of their own. The scarves, shown above bear a striking resemblence save for the words emblazoned on them. At right is the "Marc Jacobs since 1984" version and at left, the original, which reads "Linsell," the name of the Swedish village depicted on it.

55-year-old Linsell native, Goran Olofsson, claims that his father Gosta created the scarf in the 1950s. Reports The Local, an English-based paper there, "With its picturesque little church and wood huts, the scarf is very much a product of its origins. In fact, the two bears, the pasque flowers and the coat of arms depicted on the fabric are all symbols of Härjedalen, a county located in northern Sweden."

"It looks like he has just copied it straight off, this Marc guy," said Malin Nyqvist, a spokeswoman for the local tourist office. "I definitely don't think he has been to Härjedalen."

ANTM: Cycle 10 starts tonight and Cycle 11's Casting!

OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG! America's Next Top Model Cycle 10 starts tonight!

We can hardly contain our excitement or questions:

  • What will Ms. J do this year to rep the axed girls? Afros and ruffles? So done!
  • How many minutes into the episode will it be when Tyra says something completely bat-crazy?
  • How many times will the word CoverGirl be plugged?
  • Will we somehow miss Jaslene's awful commercials?
  • Will Nigel ever divorce his wife and call us???
Anyway, back to tonight: 14 girls aged 18-24 (a bit top model over the hill if you ask us) are plucked from a group of 30 tonight to head to New York when the Top Mama decides 13 just isn't enough. Tune it at 8 to check out the 30 hopefuls, and at 8:02 to see Tyra do something ridiculous (like this scary photo for example).

Meanwhile, think you've got what it takes to be on Top? You'll have to answer all kinds of difficult questions like our personal fave, #54: "If you could hold any political office, what would it be and why?" But if you've got the chops, download the application here.

Club Cavalli

It should come as little surprise to those who know of his architectural yens as of late that Roberto Cavalli has decided to tackle the club scene. The first club is slated to open in October in Dubai (where the designer has also designed an 80-story hi-rise residential building), with additional outposts in the pipeline for Milan (a revamp of a restaurant he already owns there), Miami and London.

Cavalli told WWD that he was hoping to fuse "modern and Renaissance influences, the past and the future, and especially a Tuscan touch in the kitchen."

"Everything will be Cavalli, from the furniture down to the ice holder and the dishes," he added. And no doubt that will extend to the vodka served, too - afterall, who can forget this fave Cavallism: "I make the vodka because I like having sexy times with the sexy ladies." Here's to Cavalli's new sexy times temples - Cheers dears!

Divorce Casualty: Lily Allen Dropped by Agent Provocateur

Everything's coming up black roses for Lily Allen these days. As if things in her personal life had not already run completely amok, Agent Provocateur has just dropped her as the face of its new campaign.

Allen was to succeed Kate Moss and had recently spent much time getting in shape for a shoot that included the singer posed in a corset, stockings and whip. But the owners of the company, Joe Corre, 40, and Serena Rees, 39, who are currently divorcing, apparently couldn't agree on Allen (Rees supposedly was pro/Corre con) and she was given the boot.

A company spokesperson said that no decision had been made and the photos may still be used.

Kenneth Cole Gets All Blogged Up

Kenneth Cole is getting a new outlet for his cheeky social commentary in the form of a (drumroll please...) blog. Cole has called on his "celebrity" friends to blog about social issues like poverty, homelessness, the environment and politics.

Starting the dialogue will be New York Giants player Michael Strahan sharing his perspective on athletes using human growth hormone, and Soprano's actor Joey Pants writing about mental health issues as they relate to veterans of the Iraq war. Um, ok. Surely he could get Alicia Silverstone to talk about the environment, no?

Look for it Monday at awearnessblog.com

For such an expensive watch, Cartier will set you free

Meet the Cartier Perles, a soon-to-be introduced timepiece in Cartier's Libre watch collection (ironic, no?). With 389 diamonds (a total of 2.9 carats) set in 18K gold and two pearl embellishments this striking watch is sure to steal some spotlight.

The watch bows at the SIHH show in Switzerland come April. On a sidenote, H&B much rather have 400 diamonds on a watch than a cellphone. We're just saying...

The Tiffany Telephone

If found, PLEASE return to Tiffany...

Should any product bear that message, surely it's the new Tiffany tele, a $94,000 diamond encrusted mobile, produced in conjunction with Softbank Mobile in Japan (and to think I find $200 too much to pay for a phone).

The phone boasts 400 diamonds tallying roughly 20 carats and will be avail. in Japan starting this month.
